Healthy Girls Club Inspiraton

My daughter is in elementary school and as I volunteer in her classroom, I often have the opportunity to join her for lunch. I am always amazed by the healthy meals she and her friends enjoy every day.
The cold lunchers unpack little sacks full of yogurt, applesauce, fresh fruits, sandwiches on whole wheat bread, and modest desserts, always saved for last.
They love to lecture me on the importance of organic foods, urge me to convert to Mom's Best Cereals, or show off their little containers stocked with veggies (even celery!) and dips.
Unlike the days when I was in elementary school, the hot lunchers choose from a fresh salad bar stocked with greens, veggies, fruits and cottage cheese.
I coined the term "Healthy Girls Club" in that cafeteria because I want to recognize the girls for their healthy choices and encourage them to make more.
As I thought about a name for this blog, I kept returning to the concept of "Healthy Girls Club" because it embodies not just nutritious food or physical fitness, but the idea of a community that celebrates health and supports each other in pursuing it.
I hope this idea encompasses not just girls my daughter's age, who I am happy to say are growing up with a lot more savvy than I ever had, but also the adults I teach in my Pure Barre classes and the other friends, moms and grandmothers I am fortunate enough to come in contact with every day.
I hope this blog serves as a sort of online "club" where girls and women of all ages can come and learn, share, and find motivation to embrace good choices, forgive and laugh at the not-so-good ones, and bury the bad with the dawn of each new day.
